Additional Retreat Information
What to Bring
Regardless of season, the weather in Taos is cooler in the evenings and warmer in the middle of the day. It is best to bring layers, given the wide swings in temperature here. In general, New Mexico is extremely casual. While on retreat, it is important that you are comfortable, so plan to bring casual and comfortable clothes.
Electronics
While there may be times when it is necessary to stay connected to the outside world, it is important to minimize this. Retreats, at their best, provide an opportunity to “unplug.” If you are in a position to do so, you may want to minimize your screen time or leave a message that indicates that you will be out of reach so that you can truly detach from the outside world.
Altitude/Weather
Because you are coming to a high altitude (Taos sits at over 7,000 feet) you may want to consider taking chlorophyl to provide your body with support for this transition. Optimally, you would begin taking a chlorophyl supplement a week before you arrive, continuing throughout your stay.
The sun is very strong in Taos, particularly in the middle of the day; sunscreen and a hat is advisable.
Getting Here
The closest airport is in Santa Fe. It is a small airport, serviced by American Eagle Airlines and United Airlines. It is about an hour and twenty minute drive from here to Taos.
There is a larger international airport in Albuquerque. Taos is due north of Albuquerque and the drive is about two hours and twenty minutes.
The easiest option for getting from the airport to Taos is to rent a car, as the public transportation options are minimal. From the east coast, there is a direct flight on Southwest from Baltimore to Albuquerque. Jet blue has a direct flight from JFK to Albuquerque.
Directions
I do not recommend using google maps to get to 417 La Lomita Road, as it provides a backward and inconvenient route.
From the Albuquerque airport:
Take I-25 north toward Santa Fe. As you get close to Santa Fe, take exit Hwy 599 north, as this bypasses the Santa Fe traffic. In approximately 12 miles, 599 will intersect with Hwy 84/285. Follow the signs to Espanola/Taos.
In Espanola, the road name will change to Hwy 68. Drive through the town of Espanola and continue on 68.
About twenty minutes outside of Espanola, you will enter a canyon. This is a beautiful part of the drive. The Rio Grande is running to your left.
Follow Hwy 68 into Taos.
Turn left at the third traffic light onto Paseo del Canon (at the Visitor's Center). Drive 0.4 mile and turn right at the first stop sign onto Salazar. Follow Salazar past three stop signs to the traffic light at Ranchitos Road. Cross Ranchitos and veer left onto San Antonio. San Antonio will become La Lomita after a few short blocks.
You will see the Dreamcatcher Bed and Breakfast on your left. Our driveway is the second driveway once you pass the Dreamcatcher. If you go over a speed bump, you have gone too far.
Our driveway is a shared driveway. Once you have turned into the driveway, you will come to a fork. Turn right. The driveway will curve to the left and then shoot straight back. There will be a working farm to your right.
You will come to a closed gate; there is a metal box to the left of the gate with a button inside that will open it. Our retreat facility will be right in front of you. Park anywhere in the driveway. You will see a gated courtyard to the right. Go through the courtyard; the guesthouse is on the left and it will be open.
If you have any problems while in transit, please call my home number (575-751-3045) or my cell (609-658-0570). I will be available to you throughout the retreat via my cell phone so you might want to keep this number on hand.
