LONG TERM SUSTAINABILITY

Dear friends,

We are happy to announce that Antara Retreat has received its status as a nonprofit charitable organization. Antara has been a labor of love. We had our first glimpse of its inception when we moved to Taos in 2011. Seven years later we held our first retreat.  We have been finding our path as we walk it, one unknown step at a time, in ongoing discernment of what is being asked of us, and how to best serve. It is poignant to release this child that we have been raising over to the community, which is the nature of becoming a nonprofit.

Central to our mission is to offer a place where all are welcome, bringing people together from every walk of life, all lineages and traditions, the young and old, those who are committed to walking in a sacred way and those who don’t have a conscious relationship to the sacred, those with abundant resources and those with less.  We have managed this level of diversity, in part, through our robust scholarship program. On average, about half the people who attend a retreat receive support.

We are seeking your support so that we can stabilize Antara long-term and grow in our service and offerings. Here are long and short term priorities:

Growth Projects:

1) hiring more help at all levels including building maintenance, the care of the land, and administrative support;

2) supporting our scholarship program;

3) the recording of Antara’s chants;

4) better signage;

5) an organic garden in order to grow a portion of the food for Antara;

6) and the hiring of a farmer to create and maintain that garden.

Longer Term Vision:

1) providing additional housing on the land;

2) the creation of outdoor communal space including a shaded outdoor meeting area, a meditative pond, and a circle of trees encircling a labyrinth

Julie Bergman, a member of our board, is on hand to answer any questions that you may have about the financial needs of Antara or its mission. Please feel free to reach out to her at juliebalcony@gmail.com to talk through any questions that you may have.

We are truly grateful to our Antara community as we usher in this new phase of our unfolding.

In deep gratitude,

Jan, Finn, and Dillon
